BC Paper - Overview

Using the definition used by the North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) under manufacturing sections 31-32, the paper and allied products manufacturing in British Columbia is broken down into two broad classifications: (1) 3221 Pulp, Paper and Paperboard Mills and (2) 3222 Converted Paper Product Manufacturing.

Products manufactured under NIACS classification 3221 are largely associated with the creation of pulp whether by mechanical or chemical means. Examples of manufactured paper products include asphalt paper, building paper, coated paper, diapers, facial tissues, fine paper stock, groundwood paper, kraft paper and office paper.

Examples of products BC paper board manufacturers produce include boxboard, paperboard stock, cardboard stock, corrugated cardboard boxes, coated, laminated or treated paperboard, milk carton board and stationary.
