On Tuesday, the Canadian government announced it will abide by the London Court of International Arbitration's ruling against Canada in a lawsuit alleging breach of the softwood lumber deal with the United States. The fine for the breach is approximately $68 million.

VICTORIA – British Columbia’s new Wood First Act aims to increase demand for wood products by requiring provincially-funded building projects use wood as the primary construction material, Forests and Range Minister Pat Bell announced today.

VANCOUVER – The Province will update Coastal stumpage rates to reflect market realities; introduce new measures to expand the use of B.C. wood in construction; support growth and diversification in forestry; and further support forest workers, Premier Gordon Campbell announced today in his speech to the 66th Annual Truck Loggers Association Convention.
